Our History.

Very few design-build firms in Greater Boston have a history as rich as Lee Kimball's. Our story defines who we are – a family-owned business, now in its third generation, that has thrived for 70 years because of our ability to consistently create innovative spaces while providing outstanding customer service and value.

Our firm began in 1940 when Leon Kimball Johnson and Donald Lee Bosworth founded Lee Kimball, Inc.—a small, client-centered business offering home appliances, heating systems, installations, and service. Five years later, the company finished its first kitchen installation, and Lee Kimball Kitchens was born.

Johnson, the grandfather of current Lee Kimball owners Bruce and Gregg Johnson, continued to focus on kitchen renovations to grow his business throughout the 1950s and 1960s. In 1969, he was among the first group of 25 people to become Certified Kitchen Designers (CKD).

As business continued to grow in the following decades, Bruce and Gregg Johnson became increasingly involved in the family business and eventually purchased it from their grandfather in 1989. That year they opened a new showroom in downtown Boston and incorporated as Lee Kimball Kitchens.

Today, the company re-branded as Lee Kimball has expanded in response to customer demand and now offers complete design-build services and cabinetry for a wide array of home renovation projects and home services. We have moved to a spacious new location in Winchester, where we continue to uphold Leon Kimball Johnson's key business principles: serve clients with respect, complete projects on time and on budget, and make innovation a priority.
